Filming for 'Simpler Times' wraps up in Pompton Lakes
BY TARA KOLTON, STAFF WRITER, SUBURBAN TRENDS
Downtown Pompton Lakes assumed the role of a movie set last week, as a native of the borough returned to his roots to shoot his independent film "Simpler Times."
"Simpler Times" was written and directed by Pompton Lakes native Steve Monarque, and stars Jerry Stiller as Harry, an elderly man trapped in a world of technology. He drives a car without a key, and buys a Bluetooth which he tries to pair with his cell phone, to no avail. From beginning to end, all Harry wants is to get his hands on a hard copy of a newspaper and "feel the ink between his fingers," but even that manages to elude him in the technology-obsessed world around him. The movie also features Stiller's wife and longtime partner-in-comedy, Anne Meara, in a cameo role.
